The American Veterinary Dental Society says more than 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats develop gum disease by age 3. February is Pet Dental Health Month, and was established to raise awareness of the importance of a good dental health for pets.

Burglaries, thefts rose 24 percent in south Lee County in 2011
Data released in late January showed a 24 percent rise in reported burglaries and larcenies in 2011 compared to 2010 in the Lee County Sheriff's Office Delta District, which covers Bonita Springs, Estero and the southern edge of Fort Myers. It was the biggest jump in nonviolent crime among the agency's six districts. Such crimes were up 8 percent countywide.
